Construction worker killed in Nolensville

A construction worker was killed this afternoon in the Ballenger Farm subdivision after the bed of a dump truck crushed him.

Nolensville Police Chief Paul Rigsby said the incident happened , as three workers tried to fix one of the dump trucks at a house construction site.

“They had a dump truck that the bed would not raise up,” Rigsby said. “So they took a track hoe excavator and hooked it onto the dump truck and raised the bed up with the excavator in order to gain access to the hydraulic tank.”

Rigsby said the three men got under the raised bed to pour oil into the hydraulic tank.

About Dump Truck

A standard dump truck is a full truck chassis with a dump body mounted to the frame. The dump body is raised by a hydraulic ram mounted forward of the front bulkhead, between the truck cab (traction unit) and the dump body (semi-trailer). The tailgate can be configured to swing on hinges or it can be configured in the "High Lift Tailgate" format wherein pneumatic rams lift the gate open and up above the dump body.
