Accidents abound as winter blows in
Christmas presents and a lecture were on Nancy Hammel’s mind as she drove east through the snow and sleet on Interstate 70 at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
In the bed of the truck were two living room chairs and a recliner, Christmas presents for a pregnant daughter. After dropping off the chairs in Olathe, Hammel, 54, was to head toward the airport and fly to Las Vegas to deliver a lecture on dental organizations.
Before all this happened, she drove over a slick spot, slipped left into the other lane and … BAM!
A semitrailer in the left eastbound lane slammed into her truck, flipping it multiple times into the median, where it landed on the roof.
Hammel would walk away with no injuries and make her flight to Las Vegas.
