Karnataka: Old car dealers are raking it in

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

A political crisis is viewed as disastrous in terms of development of the state. Investors are scared to invest, projects hang in balance thus giving the people an additional headache. However if there is someone who is happy is the old car dealer.

Thanks to unstable governments and new netas occupying the chair every now and then due to political instability, 125 official cars have been auctioned off.

The reason — new ministers refuse to use the used cars by their predecessors for superstitious reasons.

However, it is not as though their new car is the same variant used by the predecessor.

Life nalli change beku guru (We need change in life boss) is what some of the netas have to say. Thanks to this the people of Karnataka has seen its ministers right from the days of the Ambassador to the Toyota Corrola today.

After the Janata Dal-Secular government headed by H D Kumaraswamy fell, the new team of ministers who would have taken over had B S Yeddyurappa not stepped down felt the need to have new cars. Barely three days after the Bharatiya Janata Party chief minister took oath, at least 45 cars were auctioned off.

This is where the old car dealer steps in and makes a killing. Ford Ikon, model 2001 auctioned at Rs 1.25 lakh and later sold to the common man at Rs 2.25 lakh. Contessa picked up at Rs 20,000 and sold at Rs 50,000. Ambassadors at Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 and sold off at Rs 40,000.

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Personnel, which is in charge of this, says that with every new government the cars need to be changed. There is no way in which the ministers will use old cars. Moreover they insist on better variants rather than the one used by their predecessor.

Each time the government changes, the state coughs up at least Rs 10 crore on new cars, sources said.

Apart from this, these cars are sold at a loss after the government falls, sources in DPAR also said.

The government rules state that cars can only be sold in an auction. Worse, the cars which are used by the ministers cannot be allotted to other departments as the officials are not entitled for these higher end cars.

Sad but true, the government actually saves on Rs 3.5 crore every month when a government is not at its seat. The maintainence of the cars used by all the ministers comes up to a whooping Rs 3.5 crore a month.

Electric Scooters For Pollution Free Travel

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Electric scooters are a surprisingly effective means of getting from A to B. Cheaper than a car or a motorbike, easier than a bicycle or roller-blades, they fill a need and they fill it well.

Essentially, scooters are mini-motorcycles with smaller engines. Historically, they have been petrol-powered, but the new generation of electric scooters has brought many advantages. Electric scooters are much less noisy than any other kind of motorcycle, and they require no fuel apart from being plugged in to the mains electricity. They dont pollute, and generally need far less maintenance.

Of course, the real reason that many people ride electric scooters is that they are cheap, and you often dont need a driving license to use one. These are such big upsides that people feel able to ignore the low speeds and distances that scooters can manage, seeing the scooter as a superior form of bicycle instead of an inferior form of motorbike. They are especially popular in Asia, where people have long travelled by bike in much greater numbers than in the rest of the world.

Scooters are often considered to be safer than motorbikes, as they dont go as fast and dont have so many moving parts exposed, and your feet can be safely tucked inside the bike. While they used to be considered quite dorky for this reason, modern scooters are often more than a match for motorbikes in terms of design and style. Still, scooter riders can feel unusual and excluded, and for this reason there are many scooter clubs around for scooter owners to join and meet each other. These clubs often hold events like races and cross-country rides, and are generally much more active than you would expect. While many will have retro or classic scooters, you will be more than welcome with a modern one, so why not go along?

Classic Cars - Unique Feeling Despite Various Definitions

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Classic car is a term repeatedly used whenever one mentions about an older car, but the exact implication varies from person to person. Some tend to be very inclusive, classifying any older car in excellent condition as a classic. Others, including the “Concours d’Elegance” and the Classic Car Club of America are adamant that 1948 is the final year for genuine classics. The Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) claims that it has coined the term Classic car and as is the case it believes that the actual definition of the term is what they have given. According to the CCCA a classic car is a fine or distinctive vehicle, either American or foreign made, manufactured between 1925 and 1948.

Generally, a Classic is costly when fresh and was produced in limited numbers. Other factors which help to assess whether a vehicle is a Classic or not includes engine displacement, custom coachwork and luxury accessories, such as power brakes, power clutch, and “one-shot” or automatic lubrication systems. The Club possesses an exhaustive list of the vehicles it classifies as a Classic, and even though any member may move a petition for a vehicles to be added in the list, such petitions are scrutinized with care and rarely is a new vehicle type accommodated.

Even though this definition of a classic car is acknowledged by the CCCA, it is not universally admitted. While it still insists that the true definition of ‘classic car’ is its, it commonly utilizes terms such as CCCA Classic or the trademarked Full Classic to keep away confusion. Legally, most states provide time-based rules for the definition of “classic” for occasions such as antique vehicle registration; for example, Pennsylvania defines that a Classic is a “A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, constructed at least 15 years before the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is to the extreme complying with manufacturer specifications and appearance.” Like the definitions already given other institutions have given self-compiled definitions for Classic cars.

A division of classic cars is known as the Modern Classics. The vehicles listed under this category are generally older, anywhere from 15-25 years, but are not admitted as classics by The Antique Automobile Club of America. Such cars are rather perceived as classics by auto enthusiasts, and are generally rare, and out of construction. There was a modification in styling trends worldwide just after the end of World War II. Many cars at that time modified the traditional discrete replaceable-fender treatment. After the war, automobiles of all kinds transformed to envelope bodies in basic plan.

The CCCA term, “Classic Car” has been limited to “the functionally traditional designs of the earlier period” (mostly pre-war). They usually had removable fenders, trunk, headlights, and a usual vertical grill treatment. In a large vehicle, coupled with traditional lines, might match the CCCA term. Thus it may be a car which belongs to a later time, but not belonging to the “Classic period of Design”, in the words of the traditionalist CCCA faction. In any case Classic cars are extremely popular around the world and whatever definition you give to them, they will continue to be loved and respected.

Information About Various Types Of Construction Equipments

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

The backhoe loader is one of the most common pieces of heavy equipment on any size job site. The fact that it features two useful tools in one machine makes the backhoe loader a must-have for all kinds of construction and repair projects.

The standard backhoe consists of a diesel-powered, four-wheeled vehicle with the operator’s cab in the middle and a tool on each end. On the front, it has a loader: a wide bucket on dual arms that is used to either pick up loose piles of material or to push dirt back into a hole when a job is finished. The rear end has a backhoe — a hydraulic-powered digging scoop on a three-jointed arm, designed to dig through hard earth. The operator needs only to turn around in his seat to switch from digging a hole to filling it back up.

Digging and refilling holes and trenches is commonly required for all kinds of construction, utility work, and landscaping. The ability to exchange the backhoe or loader bucket for a different attachment gives you even more flexibility: crushers, retractable-bottom buckets, grinders, and other tools can handle a variety of other tasks. The combination of power, relatively small size, two common tools, and flexibility makes backhoe loaders extremely useful for contractors and construction firms of many types.

This BuyerZone Backhoe Loaders Buyer’s Guide will explain what you should look for when choosing a backhoe loader, what features to expect, and how much you can expect to pay.

Part of backhoe loaders’ popularity is based on the fact that they fall in the middle of a range of digging and loading equipment, bringing more power than compact machines without the expense of full-sized excavators. You should consider whether a backhoe loader is the right choice for the bulk of your digging and earthmoving needs.

For smaller jobs and increased flexibility, the combination of a skip steer loader with a standard bucket and a mini excavator can sometimes work faster than a backhoe loader. It can be cheaper to buy the two smaller machines than one backhoe loader, but you’ll need an operator for each one and you’ll have more transportation and maintenance hassles. These mini machines are most valuable in very crowded conditions, and recent trends have many contractors replacing at least one backhoe with a mini excavator.

For high-end digging power, full sized excavators are the best choice. These massive tracked machines are only worthwhile if your application calls for ongoing digging: building foundations, for example. However, their size makes them less useful on cramped construction sites.

Backhoe loaders fill a very important middle ground, where having an excavator and loading bucket on one relatively compact machine is essential. They’re also much better at moving around large job sites or between sites — you can drive a backhoe on the road if need be, while excavators and skid steers have to be moved on trailers.

Information Of Indian Bikes

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

With over a billion plus population, the bike industry in India has seen spectacular growth in the last decade and continues to move from strength to strength. Motorbikes in India encompass a major portion of the Indian two-wheeler industry. This huge growth in the bike segment is purely attributed to two important factors, namely disposable income and availability of cheap financial services. With changing market dynamics, bikes have slowly started replacing the scooter and mopeds. Consuming a large share in the Indian two-wheeler industry, bikes have come to represent style and class for many Indian men and a few women as well.

Some Indian companies like Hero Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Bajaj have ardent followers throughout the country. The launch of the Bajaj Pulsar DTSi was a class in itself. It was largely responsible for changing the image of Bajaj as a ‘scooter maker’. Hero Honda is said to be the number one bike manufacturer in the world followed closely by its Indian counterpart Bajaj India.

However there are a few bike enthusiasts who prefer imported bikes. High-performance super bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki Ninja have a huge fan following on Indian roads. While a Suzuki Zeus, Hero Honda Karizma and Honda Unicorn may have their loyal fans, these high-speed super bikes are for those with a zeal for speed.

With a steady and constant growth in the economy many people are turning to bikes. Even people who own cars are purchasing bikes as they move quickly in and out of traffic. Many Indian middle class families are now able to afford a two-wheeler due to it being economical, safe, fuel-efficient and cost effective. Bike manufacturers in India are constantly competing against each other to launch the next classy bike. By introducing special technologies and innovative features, they are slowly eating into the bike industry in India, leaving very little room for a scooter or moped to manoeuvre. With the coming of the 4-stroke engine into India, bikes have become more fuel efficient thus increasing their market potential even further.

The young generation of India prefers bikes to cars. Due to imported bikes being expensive, bike enthusiasts resort to cheap alterations to their bikes. Bike modification is the latest craze among the Indian youth. Some of the common alterations include increasing the rear tyre size, adding shock absorbers and even changing the entire body of the bike, leaving just the engine intact. Bright paint jobs and snazzy colours make the bike and its owner stand out in a crowd anytime.

With the decrease in duties and taxes, cheap consumer loans and convenience as compared to the public transit system, the motorcycle industry in India promises to keep continuing to cater to the ever changing needs of the Indian people.

Youths May Need More ATV Parts Replacements Than Adults

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

While ATV riding is an extremely fun and exhilarating past time and sport, it can be dangerous for youths too. Therefore, it’s not surprising that youths may need more ATV parts replacements than adults. Technically, they are just not as careful as adults and therefore, there are more small mistakes that could prove to be costly. To ensure that you don’t end up changing ATV parts for youth every other week, you can either send them for ATV riding training or you could actually teach them how to take care of their ATVs properly. Knowing how to care for and use their ATVs properly is the first step you should take to save on Youth ATV parts.

If you think youth ATV parts are less expensive that the adult version, you’re wrong. You see, one of the things with youth ATV parts is that they are specialty items which make them all the rarer. And as you know, the harder the youth ATV part is to find, the more expensive they can be.ATV parts manufacturers offer training for youths If you’ve just bought your children a new ATV, check if the manufacturer or the TV offer training for youths. These ATV part manufactures are actually giving the training for youths for free. ATV parts manufacturers, like AlphaSports, Arctic Cat, Bombardier, Honda, John Deere, Kawasaki.etc recognize the need to train youths on how to properly ride and take care of their ATV. They also know that it could be frustrating for the parents to have to constantly look for and purchase replacement ATV parts.

The more well-known and established the brand is, the higher the possibility that their products are reliable. Youth ATV parts in the market are priced somewhat the same with very little difference between the good ones and the mediocre ones. Cheap youth ATV parts are easy to find too and even though the price is good, they are not as reliable as the more established brands. For one thing, they don’t offer customer support or adequate protection against defects in the product or malfunctioning of the Youth ATV parts that they sell.

Many manufacturers of ATV equipment, including AlphaSports, Arctic Cat, Bombardier, Honda, John Deere, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha offer free ATV training to new ATV owners. For example If you have recently purchased a new ATV in California, don’t forget to inquire with your ATV dealer about what kind of ATV training in California they offer.

Cessna 550 Citation Twin Engine Jet Aircraft

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Cessna 550 Citation is a twin-engine business class jet airplanes. It forms part of the Citation series of aircrafts brought out by Cessna which were initially characterized by twin turbo-powered engines and straight wings. The jets of Cessna Citation series have long been the mainstay of corporate air travel in the United States.

The Cessna 550 Citation was another name of the Citation II series developed by Cessna in order to improve upon its Citation I aircrafts. The latter had proved to be successful in the market of business jets with its turbo-fan engines and ability to take off from smaller airfields.

Production of Cessna 550 Citation aircrafts continued from 1978 to 1994 and during this period around 603 aircrafts were manufactured. The production of Citation II S/P aircrafts was thought to replace the Citation 550 as the former had the capability to be flown by a single pilot. However the Citation II continued to be manufactured side by side the Citation II S/P and was finally replaced by the Citation Bravo.

An upgraded version of the Cessna 550 Citation II was the Model 551 which came to be known as the Citation II S/P. the latter was developed to compete in the Turbo-prop segment as most of the aircrafts in this segment were flown by single pilots. Yet another improved variant was the Model S550 Citation S/II which employed a more powerful engine of the JT15D4B class. Other than that it also had an upgraded design which gave it superior aerodynamics.

Buy New or Used Motorcycles

Friday, August 15th, 2008

When we hear about motorcycles, we think of big, bulky people dressed in leather and who will give you a trashing if you so much as look at them. Well I guess this is a stereotype for motorcycle riders. Other stereotypes include “gun runners, drug pushers” and you know the rest. They practically invented the definition for a “road trip” as you will the same riders when you go interstate – from motels to roadside diners, and all across America, some going as far as Mexico.

Motorcycles are two-wheeled vehicles powered by an engine. These vehicles are found in different styles depending on the purpose they were designed – long distance travel, urban travel, sport and racing and off-road conditions. Different kinds of tires are used depending on the terrain – off road tires need to be knobby because it needs the traction; road tires have treads, racing tires are smooth. Motorcycles are used for different purposes; while some use it for races in the speedway, off road or grand prix, others ride them for pure pleasure or as a means of transport.

In most parts of the world, motorcycles are the least expensive and most common motorized form of travel. The advantages of a motorcycle are: it uses less gasoline, it takes up small space and some can even travel as fast as cars. On the other hand, disadvantages include the higher risk of accidents and a motorcycle cannot carry as many passengers as a car.

The first known motorcycle was designed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, you probably recognize those names already. There are, however some arguments with regards to this. In the 1920s, Harley-Davidson became the top producer with their motorcycles being sold in 67 countries. At present, Japanese names like Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha dominate the world market for motorcycles but Harley-Davidson is still popular in the US market.

When buying motorcycle, there are some things that one needs to consider. An important question you need to ask yourself before you choose a style is: Are you riding mostly in the city or you’re planning to go on long bike trips to the country? Just as I mentioned, motorbikes are designed differently depending on the purpose and the terrain you wish to travel. Most motorcycles nowadays are more capable of doing more than one duty as they are packed with more power now, thanks to the rapid improvement of technology. Some people would suggest a sportbike for daily commuting on twisty roads or for short trips. You can also get full touring or sport touring bikes if you are planning to go interstate.

Now that you’ve decided the kind of bike you are going to purchase then its time for you to decide whether you are going to buy a new or used one.

The biggest disadvantage to buying a used motorcycle is the maintenance history of owners. Shopping for motorcycles for sale is best done during the day time is best done in the daytime you will immediately see the dents and scratches in the frame. Aside from this, small details like excessive dirt and rusty chains, frayed cables and bald tires are signs that the previous owner did not take care of them.

About Dump Truck

A standard dump truck is a full truck chassis with a dump body mounted to the frame. The dump body is raised by a hydraulic ram mounted forward of the front bulkhead, between the truck cab (traction unit) and the dump body (semi-trailer). The tailgate can be configured to swing on hinges or it can be configured in the "High Lift Tailgate" format wherein pneumatic rams lift the gate open and up above the dump body.
